Fun Animal Facts

The Rhode Island Red is a breed of chicken. They are raised by humans for meat and eggs. They are also displayed in shows. This breed of chicken has reddish-rust colored feathers. The male has a brilliant red comb. These chickens were originally bred in a village, Adamsville, which is located in Rhode Island. The males weigh approximately 8 to 9 pounds. The females are smaller and weigh around 6 to 7 pounds. Rhode Island Red chickens lay brown eggs usually 5 to 6 per week. These eggs are larger than the standard sized chicken eggs.
