Fun Animal Facts

The checkered giant rabbit is a breed that was developed in Europe. These checkered giant bucks weigh around 11 pounds while the does are slightly larger weighing 12 pounds. These rabbits were predominantly bred for shows. Rabbits live for 9 to 12 years. They are herbivorous and graze heavily if given an opportunity. Since their meals consist of high quantities of cellulose which is hard to digest, rabbits have a unique way of digesting their food. They excrete two types of feces. The dark viscous type of feces consists of partially digested food. These animals re-igests the dark viscous feces to allow their digestive systems to digest the food further and absorb nutrients.
