FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
When
are the parks open?
Micke Grove and Oak Grove parks are open every day except
Christmas. Parks open no later than 8 a.m. and close at sunset, unless
otherwise permitted.

How
much does it cost to get in the park?
Admission to both Micke Grove and
Oak Grove parks are $3 per vehicle weekdays, $5 weekends and
county-recognized holidays and
buses are $10.

If
I want to book a picnic shelter/indoor facility, what do I do?
Because our facilities are so
popular, we usually book events a year in advance (this is especially true
for weekend dates during peak season). Reservations can be booked up to
one year in advance of the event. In fact, it is not unusual to have
people waiting outside our offices to reserve preferred dates. To make a
reservation, call 953-8800 or 331-7400 or stop by our Administration
office in Micke Grove Park. Be sure to select an event date, an
alternative date, time of function and number of people expected prior to
making the reservation.

Can
the reservation permit be faxed to me?
Reservations can only be made
over the phone or in person at the Administration office, located in Micke
Grove Park. Phone reservations can only be made after 8 a.m. On-site
reservations may be made prior to 8 a.m., pending staff availability.

Do
we need reservations for a field trip? Is there a fee?
No reservations are needed for
self-guided school tours of Micke Grove Zoo. Classes are welcome to attend
the zoo, but as of Sept. 1, 2003; visitors
will be charged the standard zoo entrance fee - $2 adults and $1 youth 3
through 17. Children under three
years of age will receive free admission. Vehicles designed to transport
ten or more people will continue to be charged the $10 parking fee unless
it has a “California Exempt” license plate. Weekday parking
fees are $3 per car. Docents from the Micke Grove Zoological Society offer guided
tours for a fee. Call 331-2010 for reservations.

Are
there picnic tables? Barbecues? Water and electricity?
Yes, all of our picnic
facilities have picnic tables and barbecues. Most rental facilities,
excluding Poppy at Oak Grove, include
electric outlets and water.

Are
all picnic shelters covered?
All reservable picnic shelters
are covered, with the exception of Micke Grove's Bear Creek picnic area.

Are
there round tables in the auditorium?
We offer 12 ft. x 29 in. rectangular
tables (each usually seats 12 people) and a limited number of 5 ft. round
tables (seating for 8 people). Standard card tables and a limited number of 8 ft. tables are also
available for use.

Can
my softball league use a field at the Regional Sports Complex? How about
soccer fields?
The City of Stockton Parks
& Recreation handles all baseball field rentals. They can be reached
at 937-8206. To inquire about soccer field rentals, call our office at
953-8800.

When
are fish deliveries at Oak Grove Lake?
Catfish and Rainbow Trout are planted on a weekly or
biweekly basis during their respective season.

Are
there any job openings in S.J. Parks & Rec?
Job openings are posted and
applied for through the San Joaquin County Human Resources Dept., located
at the Canlis Bldg. (24 S. Hunter St., Rm. 106) in downtown Stockton.
